James Van Ness Coller

James Van Ness Coller is buried in Russellville Cemetery, Boone County, Illinois.
On September10, 1998, his grave was located in Russellville Cemetery, on
Russellville Road, about l mile north of Squaw Parairie Rd. and 1 block
south of Grange Hall Road in Bonus Township, rural Russellville, Boone
County, Illinois. It is marked by a single monument about 5' tall with
three graduated steps, inscribed on the east side as follows:
"COLLAR(SIC.NOTE SPELLING), JAMES V. COLLAR,died December 29, 1889, age
82 years.
His wife's name, "Margaret S., wife of J.V. COLLAR, died March 31, 1882,
age 75 years" is inscribed on the south side of monument.

Russellville Cemetery was laid out in 1855 on land given by Rev. Oren
Miller.

James Van Ness Coller was listed in the 1850 census as a farmer.

1860 Census, Town of Bonus, Boone County, Illinois, lists him as, Collar,
James, 57, Laborer (handwriteen note "sp-COTTON') BORN IN PA.

1870 Census, Bonus, Boone County, Illinois, lists him as "James Volne y
(sic) Collare, 60 farmer, born in PA.

1880 Census,Boone County Census, lists J.V. Coller 70, Jack of all
Trades, birthplace PA, with parents born in New Jersey.

James married Margaret Smith in 1834. (Margaret Smith was born on 10 Sep 1810 in New York,⁸⁶ died on 31 Mar 1882 in Bonus Township, Boone County, Illinois and was buried in Russellville Cemetery, Boone County, Illinois.)
